Bay (vavrín) – farba tela sa mení medzi žltohnedou cez červenohnedú až ku svetlej zlatohnedej. Hriva a chvost musia byť vždy čierne.
Dark Bay or Brown (tmavý vavrín, alebo hnedá) – na tmavohnedom koni e celá srsť hnedá s plochami svetlejších tónov, ktoré sa môžu nachádzať na hlave, na pleciach, na bokoch, na spodku brucha, na vnútorných horných partiách nôh, alebo horných stehien. Hriva, chvost a nohy musia byť čierne.
Black (čierna) – farba tela je čierna, bez svetlých škvŕn. Pysky, boky a nohy musia byť čierne, tak isto ako hriva a chvost.
White (biela) – farba tela je snehobiela s ružovou, alebo svetle sfarbenou kožou. Niektoré kone Appaloosa majú bielu farbu tela s veľa tmavými bodkami na veľa partiách, alebo na celom tele. Od tmavou bodkou sa nachádza tmavá koža. Táto farba sa niekedy označuje ako ,,leopard“ . Je podobná sfarbeniu dalmatínca , ale pre nutnosť registrácie sa označuje ako biela s bodkami. Hriva a chvost musia byť biele.
Bucksin(plavák) – forma plavého sfarbenia je kolísaním od žltohnedej ku zlatej. Táto farba je často porovnávaná s farbou kože jeleňa. Pre túto farbu je charakteristická čierna hriva a čierny chvost a čierne nohy. Plavák smie mať pruh na chrbte, ale nie pruhovanie na nohách, ktoré často u plavých koní vidíme.
Chesnut (gaštanová) – farba tela sa mení od zlatej cez odtieň mede až k tmavej farbe pečene. Gaštan vykazuje malé plôšky čiernej srsti, tieto ,, špinavé škvrny“ nie sú to žiadne bodky a preto nie sú žiadnymi znakmi plemena Appaloosa. Svetlejší odtieň gaštanovej smie mať ľahšiu prímes bielych chlpov v srsti, ale nie v dostatočnom počte , aby sa mohol označiť za prekvitnutého. Zriedka vidíme gaštanového koňa s tak svetlou farbou, aby sme si ho mohli pomýliť s Palomino. Farba chvosta a hrivy sa môže meniť v rovnakých farbách ako telo až ku svetlej a pritom sa môžu vyskytovať aj čierne vlasy. Avšak hriva a chvost nikdy nie sú čierné. Sorrel(ryšiak) – je sfarbenie veľmi podobné farbe chesnut s tým rozdielom, že sorrel má farbu tela všade jednotnú (bez svetlejších , alebo tmavších plôch) . Hriva a chvost sú vždy vo farbe srsti. Dun – farba tela je žltkastá, alebo zlatá a môže smerovať k farbe matnej medi. Tento kôň má vždy na chrbte úhorí pruh (pokiaľ sa nevyskytujú biele znaky) a môže mať zebrové pruhy na nohách a priečne pruhy na zátylku. Hriva a chvost môžu byť hnedé, červené, alebo žlté, alebo zmes týchto farieb. Palomino(žltý) – býva opisovaná ako farba 22 karátového zlata. Jeho farba srsti je bežne zlatožltá, hriva a chvost sú vždy svetlejšie, ako je farba tela, ale zriedka úplne biele. Škvrny, vyskytujúce sa na zadku koňa nie sú znakom plemena Appaloosa. Gray(šedý) – šedá farba srsti je zmesou bielych a čiernych chlpov, ktoré rastú na čiernej koži. Hriva a chvost musia byť vždy šedé(zmes bielych a čiernych vlasov) , alebo čierne. Väčšina šedých koní sa rodí ako veľmi tmavý, alebo čierny a majú často málo bielych chlpov v srsti. Prvé rozšírenie bielych chlpov je možné vidieť okolo uší a očí. Neskôr sa začne ukazovať viacej bielych chlpov roztrúsených na chrbte a na zadku. Farba srsti v každom nasledujúcom roku zosvetlí, pretože biele chlpy nahradia čierne. Niekto môže občas nesprávne považovať staršieho šedého koňa za bieleho , keď si dôkladne neoverí zostávajúce čierne chlpy, alebo čiernu kožu. Grulla(vyslovované gruh-jah) – táto farba sa z časti označuje ako holubia, alebo myšia a nevzniká zo zmesi tmavých a bielych chlpov, ale každý chlp e myšej farby.Hriva a chvost a spodok nôh sú obvykle čierne. Kone grulla môžu mať úhorí pruh na chrbte, priečne pruhy cez kohútik a zebrovanie na nohách. Red Roan (červeno prekvitnutá) – prekvitnutosť vzniká zmesou základnej farby s bielymi chlpmi po celej srsti. Nie je tam naozaj žiadny strakatý chlp. Pri sfarbený red roan je srsť zmesou červených a bielych chlpov. Hriva a chvost majú byť také isté ako je základná farba zvieraťa, a môžu byť zmiešané s bielymi vlasmi . Preto sa majú hriva a chvost koňa javiť ako červené. Blue Roan( čierne prekvitnutá) – táto farba srsti vzniká z pomerne rovnakej zmesi čiernych a bielych chlpov. Tmavšiu oblasť obsahujú oblasti s väčším množstvom čiernych chlpov a nachádzajú sa na hlave a na spodku nôh. Hriva a chvost majú byť šedé až čierne, ktoré vychádzajú zo zmesi čiernych a bielych vlasov. Kôň so sfarbením roan môže časom vyblednúť.
